PATCH

The Problem

Humans need to lessen their animal product consumption to benefit the environment, to mitigate current health issues and to lessen the demand
linked to animal cruelty. But switching over to a plant-based diet can be daunting and hard.

The Solution

Patch addresses the main pain points that occur when switching over to a plant-based diet, making it easier for users to make the transition and stick with it.

The main pain point I found throughout my research that I wanted to address is the difficulty associated with nutrition substitution and tracking. Unlike other nutrition tracking applications currently in the market, Patch will take into consideration what you have consumed and give you recommendations that are plant-based, healthy and sustainable, based on your location and the current season. It will also let users input the supplements they are taking, which isn’t found in most nutrition tracking application.

The second pain point I wanted to address with Patch was the lack of motivation users feel when switching to a plant-based diet. To assure users stay motivated, Patch has a reward centre that gives users feedback on their personal effect on the environment and factory farming. This gives them tangible evidence that they are single handedly making a difference.

Most of these solutions derived from my own personal journey with this diet change, but also through primary and secondary research. Through my research, interviews and through my own pain points I found the key areas that make it hard to attempt and maintain a vegan diet.

This process ultimately let me turn an interest into a problem. I then was able to use the skills I have accomplished over the past four years to solve this problem. A daunting and rewarding task for any designer.
